Sector Studies

Many organisations work across multiple geographical markets and this, of course, applies as much to those who build and maintain property as to those who use it.

On the supply side Ramidus can focus equally on retail, office or industrial space and is at the forefront of research into innovative new ways of building and using real estate. We have undertaken studies focusing on, for example, office markets, industrial property, the agricultural sector, and the managed office market.

On the occupier side we analyse trends in many business sectors to help build scenarios that decision makers can easily grasp and use to inform choices. We have undertaken sector studies, for example, on banking, legal services and TMT.

Recent Projects

The following is a brief review of some recent work undertaken by Ramidus for our growing client base.
Much of our work contains market/business sensitivities, and we are therefore only able to show a small cross section of work.

Business Centre Association

Appointed with IPD to undertake the first ever national study and benchmarking exercise of the business centre market across the UK. The work involved a survey of providers to collect comprehensive data on the occupation and management of centres. Details of almost 600 business centres were collected and analysed.

Multi-client study

Ramidus has recently completed a study looking at the warehouse market in West London, to investigate the changing priorities of operators and the implications for building design. Sponsors of the project included: Jones Lang LaSalle, Park Royal Partnership, SEGRO and Wilson James.

St Bride's

Appointed by fund manager St Bride’s to provide research to underpin its UK investment strategy. Work involved a detailed assessment of all main property sectors and the wider economic, social, political and environmental factors likely to influence their prospects. Work was applied at city level to guide geographical focus of investment.

Needspace

Appointed by Wates subsidiary Needspace to assess the market for managed office space in the South London region. Work involved a detailed assessment of local market conditions as well as an examination of the commercial business case for investing in the sector.

City of London Corporation

A detailed examination of the changing workplace requirements of occupiers, ranging from the workstation to the public realm, published as Future Workstyles and Future Workplaces in the City of London. The study highlighted the growing impact of technology and changing workstyles; before presenting policies for ensuring that the City remains attractive as a business location.

City of London Corporation

Project to assess the role and contribution of serviced offices to the City economy. The study focuses on the SMEs and helps to explain how the serviced office market is providing accommodation to meet the needs of this highly dynamic sector of the City economy.

Multi-client study

As research partner for Business Vantage, Ramidus undertook a project examining relationships in the property supply chain – Equal Partners Three. The sponsors included: Barclays Bank, Bovis Lend Lease, Broadway Malyan, Johnson Controls, Land Securities Trillium and The Crown Estate. The project examined the issues behind tensions in the supply chain and provided a basis for cross industry discussions on how to improve supply chain efficiency.

Carter Jonas

A review of the agricultural industry in order to write the first edition of a publication, The Agricultural Investment Indicator, aimed at informing the firm’s clients about industry and market trends, and the prospects for investing in the sector. We update the publication annually.

Greater London Authority

Appointed along with CAG Consultants to undertake the London Industrial Land Demand Study. This study updated and extended the strategic industrial land demand assessment to 2041 and informed an update to the Industrial Capacity SPG and/or a formal alteration to the London Plan. It provided strategic context to inform preparation of OAPFs which will play an important mechanism at the sub-regional level to guide the retention and release of industrial land.

British Council for Offices

Appointed to undertake the largest ever study of occupancy densities in office buildings, to inform a BCO Guide to Office Specification. Collected and analysed data on 2.5 million sq m of office space.
